Fudam is a 300 member cooperative which was started in the year 2000 by 7 growers who got together with a shared vision of sustainable agriculture as well as environmental protection and development. These growers are in and around the town of La Union in the state of Narino. One of the unique features of Narino is the area’s very high elevations. So high in fact that the people living in the towns walk DOWN to the farms. Through most of the coffee world folks would hike UP to the farms as the coffee is usually at the higher elevation.
FUDAM’s growers are firmly dedicated to the principles of sustainability just as they were from day one. This is in spite of mounting pressures to rely on chemical inputs. When asked why the association continues to farm the way they always have…”This is just how we live, these are our values and our way of life”.
